VIVID 2018. Towards Zero. Fashioning The Circular Economy

This event has passed Get tickets

Event description

Fashion has a waste problem. Of the 80 billion garments produced each year, up to one third is never sold. Much of our unwanted fashion becomes pre-consumer waste and is thrown away or incinerated. Fast fashion garments are designed to be discarded after just a few wears, and we’re sending clothes to landfill like never before. What do to?

Take, make, discard is so last season. It’s time for a return to common sense when it comes to design and consumption. What is the circular economy? What are some of the big ideas for redesigning fashion futures, closing the loop and rethinking waste as a resource? We invite you to join us as we discuss real-world solutions for rekindling our lost love for the craft, soul and true value of the clothes we wear.

This conversation is a call to action for designers, artists, makers and shakers to get involved in the future of fashion. Disrupt your thinking and learn how the circular economy is our best bet against a wasted future. We’re going to keep this good humoured because we believe that although the world is full of serious problems, future solutions don’t need to be.

Presented by The Possibility Project, a social enterprise collaborating with slum communities in India to manufacture a slow clothing label; Clare Press, Wardrobe Crisis author and Vogue Australia’s Sustainability Editor-at-Large; and Tonia Bastyan of Chalk ReDesign - Tonia left the fashion industry as we know it to help create a kinder one.

Please arrive 15 minutes prior to start time for check-in.
