Hearing the Voice of Participants: Canberra’s First Citizen’s Juries

This event has passed Get tickets

Event description

Have you heard about the recent Citizens Juries in Canberra? Do you wonder how they are run and what it’s like to be a juror in a Participatory process like this? Do you wonder whether Juries have any power to directly impact upon the quality of your life and your community? Do you love food with others and a fun night out?

This is an evening for hearing the stories of participants, how they felt about being in the process and about how these processes are working for us in Canberra, and for asking your own questions.  And we’ll do it while sharing delicious food, meeting new people and generally having a good time. No prior knowledge about Citizen's Juries is necessary.

The current Housing Choices Collaboration Hub is also a way to involve Canberrans in decision making for the future. How can these and future processes work better?

Emily Jenke, the codesigner and facilitator, of DemocracyCo and some jurors and participants will be presenting their stories.

$11.39 includes antipasto platter. Bring your own wine. The set up is cafe style with a number of tables surrounded by chairs.

Quotes from some ACT citizens jurors

- I started off thinking that I could not be able to contribute at all – that I was dumb – have grown through this process – am more confident, my quality of life has improved.

- Been in Canberra for 40 years, this is the first time I’ve been able to get my foot in the door of government – hooray! - this is government by the people for the people.

- Has informed my sewing group as well.
