Building a Movement 101

Event description

How do you mobilise people to action and build community? From national actions that brought radical constitutional change, to international movements that shifted cultures and local movements that changed our everyday lives - what does it actually take?

In a few hours we will look at lessons from around the world, examine what we can apply to your own changemaking and identify tools and techniques to take your efforts to the next level.

We will look at classic input from Clay Shirky (Here comes the crowd) and Marshall Ganz (Why David sometimes wins) and more recent thinking from Adam Kahane (Collaborating with the Enemy).

Moira Deslandes is an experienced campaigner in community and political contexts. Over recent years she has supported movement building for social good, refugee justice, early childhood, carers and engagement of older citizens. She is the go-to person for many in the community and not-for-profit sector on limited budgets. She is the Founder of Chooks SA a movement striving to increase equity in investment for female founders in start ups and social enterprises.
